Texture and Pattern
Texture- refers to the tactile qualities o the physical surface of
the object. How does the surface feel
when you touch it?
The main component with capturing texture is mostly based on the lights influence. The texture of an object can be accentuated by the morning, or the overhead light by the sun at midday, for example.

Pattern - a structure that has a level of organisation with
consistency and regulation. It can be repeating shapes,
colour or form, and can be thought of as that barre bones
that organise a composition. They can also be man made, as
in buildings and structures as such, or natural, as plants
and feathers.

Denotations
The picture is of 2 severed octopus tentacles , and features a muted burgundy backdrop, and a red piece of plastic next to it. There is a dominant light source emanating from the bottom left, which leaves shadows from the plastic and the tentacles.

Improvements
I would improve these photos by making sure they were in focus to capture the texture and the pattern of the objects better. I would also shoot from a birds eye angle, to get a different view of objects which also may show different patterns and textures and would be clearer to see.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
My ideas for recording patter and textue was the capture the inreicies and patterns to show the according theory associated with pattern and texture. I was inspired by the works of Patrice De Villiers and how she uses food and objects in a minimalist style to represent something delse and capture a certain mood. Her use of cultural foods insipired me to use objects that could be seen as to be linked with British and Welsh culture. I liked how my images came out but i would've preferred if; the cups have a plain background and more contrast, the grainy pebbles were more in focus, along with the paper.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
To improve my paper photot, I would use a tripod to keep the camera still, therefore i would be able to get a better in-focus photo. To adjust the glass cup i would turn up the contrast, turn down the brightness ands make the background blackened white to accentuate the tactile nature of the cup. I would also adjust the contrast in the photo of the thread, and make it black and white.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
My artist research was helpful as i learnt about minimalist techniques that can be used to make a unique and powerful photo. My artist was Patrice De Villiers, who uses food as the subject matter in her photos and used the composition to make an interesting image. This was helpful as i cmd from a cooking background, but it does nesiarily have to be food, as it can be things that can be culturally identifiable, for example dolls, stain glass and old fashioned glass bowls.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

Texture

well done, but I think in this shoot you will need to work on your lighting skills e.g. use studio lights/artificial light sources (lamp) or window light and study the light. Pay close attention to the textures created similar to Stuart Weston's imagery and make more use of the contrasts generated. The crumpled paper is a good idea but it needs to be explored further..
