Definition and Theory

•A shape is an area enclosed by a line. It could be just an outline or it could be shaded in.

•Shapes can be either geometric, like a circle, square or triangle, or irregular.

•When drawing shapes, you must consider the size and position as well as the shape of the area around it. The shapes created in the spaces between shapes are referred to as negative space.

Geometric - characterised by or decorated with regular lines and shapes

Irregular - not even or balanced in shape or arrangement

Bill Brandt Research

Brandt has used negative space in his photos to accentuated shape and form within the photo. To this he has used bright lights in a dark area to have the dexterity in the image to clearly show a differentiation between negative and positive space.  personally think he can usb his message which showing such graphic image of  a women's breasts, although it isn't objectification as it is art in a form of trying to portray an idea. Due to the unrealistic distortion of light to maybe present the distortion of women that used to happen in the media.

My idea for photographing shape was to photograph everyday synthetic forms, such as lamp and light shades. I used this to present geometric shapes.

I used a Nikon D3300 for all the shots. They were photographed on an aperture setting of … . I tried to increase the aperture settings so there was a clear contrast so you can easily notice the different shapes.
